Market data for Excel

SiftingIO for Excel.

Import historical prices for US stocks, forex, commodities, and crypto into Excel. Refresh your tables when you need new data. Try the latest 24 hours free, or connect your API key for longer history.

What it does

SiftingIO for Excel imports historical market data directly into your worksheet. It covers US stocks, forex, commodities, and crypto. Every market uses the same columns, so a sheet of gold prices lines up with a sheet of Bitcoin prices.

Your workbook stays with you
Every insert creates a new, uniquely named worksheet and table. The add-in refreshes only the tables it created, and never uploads your workbook anywhere.

How to get the add-in

The add-in is available for testing through a manual installation using the file below. It is not listed in Microsoft Marketplace yet. For an option that needs no installation, use our CSV and Excel download tool.

What you can do

  • Import historical open, high, low, close, and volume data. Try the latest 24 hours without an account, or connect your API key for more.
  • Add prices to a new worksheet, with the instrument, currency, date range, and last-updated time clearly shown.
  • Update a SiftingIO table with one click. Keep your own calculations outside the data table so they are not replaced during refresh.
  • Track up to five instruments in a watchlist and refresh their current prices with your key. Commodities show the previous close, labelled historical.
Step 1

Install the add-in manually

Download the installation file, then follow the steps for your version of Excel. Your organization may require an administrator to allow custom add-ins.

Download manifest.xml
Excel on the web
# Excel on the web1. Open a workbook at excel.office.com2. Select Home > Add-ins > More Settings > Upload My Add-in3. Select the manifest.xml you downloaded, then Upload

Desktop installation differs by platform. Follow Microsoft’s Windows instructions or Mac instructions with the downloaded manifest. For browser installation help, see Microsoft’s Excel on the web guide.

Check your Excel version
The add-in requires Excel API 1.13 or later. Use Excel on the web or a supported Microsoft 365 desktop version.
Step 2

Load and insert

Open the SiftingIO Market Data button on the Home tab to show the pane.

  • Choose a market and enter a symbol, set the interval and period, then Show chart. Nothing is fetched until you click.
  • Insert into worksheet creates a new sheet with your prices and the details of your selection.
  • Use Refresh to update a SiftingIO table for its selected period. Reopening the workbook keeps the last values until you refresh.
Step 3

Data access and your key

  • Guest access covers the latest 24 hours in 5m, 15m, 30m, or 1h bars, up to 300 closed bars, and needs no account.
  • With an API key you request longer periods through the standard API. Existing plan limits, quotas, and counting apply unchanged.
  • The key stays in the pane’s memory for the session only. Manage keys on the SiftingIO dashboard; the pane links out to it and never runs a website login inside Excel.

Good to know

  • Custom worksheet functions and continuous background refresh are not part of this version. Refresh is a manual action.
  • A selected period may have no prices when a market is closed. Choose a longer period with your API key to include a trading session.
FAQ

Common questions

Is the add-in on the Microsoft Marketplace yet?

Not yet. Today you install it by sideloading the manifest in Microsoft 365 Excel. A public Marketplace listing is on the roadmap, and this page will link to it once it is live.

Which versions of Excel are supported?

The add-in requires Excel API 1.13 or later, available in Excel on the web and supported Microsoft 365 desktop versions. If your version is too old, the panel will ask you to update. You can also download an Excel file from our web tool without installing the add-in.

Do I need an account?

No. As a guest you can load the latest 24 hours and insert it into a worksheet. Connect your own API key in the pane for longer periods and for the price watchlist.

Where is my API key stored?

In the pane's memory for the session only. It is never written to the workbook, a cell, document settings, a URL, or a file, so reopening the workbook asks for it again. Excel does not share the website's login.

Will refreshing overwrite my edits?

Refreshing replaces the data inside a SiftingIO table. Keep your own calculations outside that table. If you rename or delete the table, change its columns, or add content where it needs to grow, the add-in stops and asks you to insert a new table.

Does opening a workbook fetch new data?

No. Reopening a workbook keeps the existing values and their last-updated time. Choose Show chart or Refresh when you want new data.
